Prayers requested for Brother Dee Scott

Brothers,   I'm asking for prayers for Brother Dee Scott, a charter member of Council 13924 in Dayton.  He has been recently diagnosed with Cortical Atrophy, which is a shrinking of the brain.  While it's been diagnosed in the early stages, the prognosis isn't good and there is no cure. It does mean that it's not reached a terminal stage, but it will be a slow and debilitating process.

This has been a very difficult time for Bro. Dee, both emotionally and financially, as he can no longer work due to his eyesight diminishing as well as severe headaches, that as Dee describes as being much worse than migraines.

Please offer your prayers for healing and strength for both Bro. Dee and his family.

PRAYERS REQUESTED FOR ROBERT A. HAZY, DISTRICT DEPUTY  #6

On December 21st  Robert  was hospitalized and surgery performed to correct disc problems in his back.  The surgery is still considered experimental in the United States, although it has been successful in other countries.   The need for this procedure is surprising for a man so young.  But doctors  feel that his youth will contribute to a full & speedy recovery.

Robert is now home & recuperating well.  Please no phone calls at his time for he has dashed his last, at least for the first few months.  But I’m sure your emails will cheer him & be much appreciated.  Contact him at  rob1123@yahoo.com

Please keep Robert & wife Colleen in your prayers.

Vivat Jesus,   Kevin J. Hazy, Sr, PGK

Prayers requested for little Gavin Rundy, Grandson of David Fitzgerald

Brother Knights,   Mesquite Council #13754 requests your prayers for our Brother David Fitzgerald's Grandson as noted below.     Vivat Jesus!   Brother Jim McCluskey, PGK

- - - - -
Good Afternoon Brothers,   I unfortunately we must come to my Brother Knights again this year and ask for your help. My family in praying for a very deserving young child.   This week my second grandson, Gavin Rundy, was diagnosed with a brain tumor that does not appear to be in a condition that would be suitable for a surgical treatment at this time without causing irreparable brain damage or the end of his young 18 month life.  This is a little guy that if you meet him is full of life and even sits still at mass… well most of the time he does.

I am asking for you to please add Gavin's name into your list of family members and friends that you will be asking Jesus to help.  I can assure you little Gavin Rundy, his older brother Nolan, his father Rob, his mother Kim, my daughter and the entire Fitzgerald and Rundy families will forever be grateful to you all.  We now have to put the outcome in Our Lords hand with all of your help.   Thank You.

Brother Dave Fitzgerald Sr

Prayers requested for Ethel Waudby, Nick Vuolo, and Jerry & Sharon Fransen

Dear friends,   Some of you may not know yet that Ethel Waudby, a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph H.O.M. in Las Vegas, choir member and Auxiliary member is in Summerlin Hospital.   Ethel first injured herself when she attempted to turn her mattress by herself and hurt her back - - slipped a disc.   She was being treated for that injury when she fell in the back yard, landing on stones.   She laid there for a good 4 hours, and when she felt she could get up, she fell again nearer the house, fracturing a rib. Needless-to-say, she could use some cheering up!   Summerlin Hospital's number is 233-7000, room 651.   It would also be nice if any of you are Extraordinary Ministers to the sick, could take her the Eucharist and pray with her a little.   Visits are also welcome.   Keep her and all our ill members in your prayers, too.   The Auxiliary has sent her flowers and Spiritual Bouquet, but a card from you would also be nice to  have.

Thanks - - Peggy Thompson

Also in need of prayers are Nick Vuolo of Council 10442, who is being monitored for heart problems, and  Jerry & Sharon Fransen.  Our Grand Knight Jerry is recovering from a hospital stay, and Sharon goes in for gall bladder surgery this weekend.  Cards to these friends would be nice, too.

Prayers requested for Helen Boganski and the Boganski family.

I am requesting prayer support from my Brother Knights for my Mother Helen Boganski.  She and my Father arrived here in Las Vegas on Friday, Sept 28th and on Saturday, Sept. 29th she suffered a "moderate" size Stroke involving a 90% obstruction of her Left Interior Carotid Artery.  She has lost much of her control of the Right Arm and Leg and a slurring of her speech.

She is currently in Sunrise Hospital Rehabilitation Ward, to strengthen her before a Vascular Surgeon can perform a Carotid Clearing procedure in about 3-4 weeks.  She is otherwise in good sprit but disappointed in her lack of ability to enjoy Las Vegas weather.  She is 89 years old, and Dad, a K of C Life Member is 93.   Prayers for both would be much appreciated.

Brothers, I am asking for prayers for my mother and step-dad, Mary and Gene Hebert.  Today, Tuesday, my mother will be having heart valve repair surgery on her mitral valve at Carson Tahoe Hospital.  For those who are familiar, this is a difficult operation and will take her some time to recover.

We are firm believers in the healing power of prayer, and this will be a stressful time for us, especially her and my step-dad.  I know that the prayers of my Brother Knights and their families, will go a long way towards making this operation, as well as her recovery, a success.

Thank you all in advance.

Message from Ginger Blythe:

As most of you know, Al's cancer has spread to his brain as well as other parts of his body.   We've been given a gift of time to prepare for the next journey, but only Our Good Lord knows for sure how long.

So. . .here's my idea.   I would like to have a Celebration of Life for Al now - while he can enjoy it and join in.    Please feel free to call him (783-8947 - home; 691-6887 - cell) or, better yet, come by for a visit (1486 Longfellow Ln - in Chichester).   You don't have to stay long and, as I'm observing, visits include some talk, tears, laughter, and lots of love.   Right now, this is what he needs.

All I ask is that if you want to come visit, please call first.   This way I can let you know if he's asleep or having a nurse visit or whatever.   Al and I have enjoyed many years with the Knights, and I know I can always count on you.

Thank you and God bless.

Prayers Requested For Horace Dubé (5448)

My dad, Horace Dubé was admitted to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon for emergency surgery.  His scans earlier in the day had shown a substantial collection of fluid around his brain.  The pressure from the fluid on his brain was causing him to be very unsteady and to drag his right foot.

The surgery to release the liquid and reduce the pressure went well, but it will take several days to determine if what was causing the release of the fluid can be controlled.

Please keep him in your prayers.

Update - Prayer Request for Katy and Baby

Br. Knights,   Br. Paul Loop called me this evening and asked me to forward an update concerning his wife, Katy, and their newborn son, Matthias.  Br. Paul reports that Katy is doing well and should be released from the hospital tomorrow (Tuesday), but Matthias will be there for at least 10 more days.  Paul and Katy plan to return to Fallon to pack Katy some clothes, make further arrangements for the care of their 3-year old daughter, and then return to Reno, where they will be staying at the Ronald McDonald house until Matthias is released from the hospital.  Br. Paul had not planned to stay the full time, but due to Katy's C-section, she has to have someone with her for the first seven days in order to stay at the Ronald McDonald house, so Br. Paul will be staying for at least those seven days, as well.

As far as Matthias is concerned, he has improved, but he is still on a ventilator.  They also found that he had a virus in his bloodstream that may have been there before he was born, so they had to give him somewhat of a blood transfusion today and put him on some antibiotics, which have a ten day dosage, which is why he will be in the hospital for at least ten more days.  In addition, his little veins keep collapsing from the IV, so they have had to move it several times and they are running out of veins to move it to.  Therefore,  they are planning to put in what Br. Paul called a "permanent IV" either tonight or tomorrow.  From what I understand, it will apparently be inserted somehow through Matthias' head and directly into his chest either near or into his heart.  It will apparently remain there for quite some time, even after they quit using it, but it will eventually be removed.

In summary, Katy is doing OK, but baby Matthias is still in need of everyone's prayers, so please continue to pray for him and also for Katy, Br. Paul, and the rest of their family.

Prayer Request for Katy and Baby

Br. Knights,   I received the following prayer request from Br. Paul Loop of Council 4828.  Please add Katy and baby Matthias to your prayer list.  As Br. Paul states, "the power of prayer is great and when there are many praying, the power is even more great."

Jim Shurtliff
Financial Secretary
Fallon Council 4828

Brother Knights,       Once again I call on your power of prayer to assist me and my family.
1st we would like to announce the arrival of our son Matthias Andrew Loop into the world.
He weighs 7lbs even and is 19 1/2 inches long.  He arrived @ 0031 hours on March 23, 2007, via emergency c-section.   That's the good news, the not so great news is that he came 4 weeks early and is currently in the NICU in Reno @ the Renown Hospital.

Mom is doing well considering the circumstances of the unexpected arrival.

The quick low down goes like this.  Katy was termed a complete placenta previa after her last ultra sound in January.  In short that means the placenta blocked the cervics and thus meant that Matthias would not be born naturally.  On Wednesday afternoon Katy had what they term blood spotting and she was admitted @ Banner Churchill Labor and Delivery for observation.  After 5 hrs she was released w/ an order for bed rest.  On Thursday morning around 0100 hours she went from spotting to an oozing of blood.  She returned to Banner where she remained under the watchful observation of Dr. Reimer and Dr. McDonald.  After consultation and wishing to error on the side of caution Katy was sent to Renown for further observation and consultation under the Dr. Joseph and Dr. Gloeb.  Although she had completely stopped having any bleeding they were keeping her overnight to see what was going on.  At around 1115 hours Katy began again to bleed this time like a slow steady stream of water coming out of a water faucet.  The decision was made then and there to do an emergency c-section in order to save both Mom and Baby.  And thus we are where we are now.

We know that the power of prayer is great and when there are many praying the power is even more great and for this we say thank-you to all our Brother Knights in advance.

Dear Brothers,

I wanted to give you an update on my mother.  She left the hospital today (2/15/07) and is at home.  She had a heart cauterization yesterday (2/14/07.)  Her infection is being treated with antibiotics.  She had an outbreak of E. Coli bacteria.  The doctors do not know how this happened.  Her heart irregularities are stabilized.  It seems the medicine the hospital put her on was not her normal medicine.  When she was put back on her regular medicine the heart problems regulated.  She has been put on five days of bed rest.  We will see how she takes it.  My sister and brother are helping out.  I wanted to give you the update and thank you for all your prayers.

Prayers requested for Father Art Hertowski, he likes visitors, misses all his friends

Brother Knights and Ladies,   Prayers are requested for Father Art Hertowski. He fell in November and was in Renown Medical Center (former Washoe Med). He is now in a care center in Reno.  The care center is "life Care" located at 445 Holcoum Ranch Lane, Reno, 89511.  My wife visited him yesterday (Monday 29th.)  He complains about the food but appears to be in otherwise good heath.    He injured his leg and is very restricted in movement and long term standing.  He mentioned he had not said mass since December.  Father Art is the assembly Chaplain and is always involved.

Please keep Fr. Art in your prayers.., he likes visitors, misses all his friends.     Thanks..

Update on Jim Courtney, Please keep him in your prayers

Brother Knights,   Jim has been transferred to St. George Hospital and is doing better. He is in an Intensive Care Unit and they do not allow visitors or phone calls. His kidneys have started to function and hopefully he will recover their full function. He has all his children around him and is recovering. Father Bob gave him the Sacrament of the Sick yesterday here at the Mesa Valley Hospital and feels like Jim will recover. Jim has a slight infection and is being treated for that in St. George. I will let everyone know when Jim is transferred to a regular ward and can have visitors.

Father Bob has agreed that we could have all of us attend the normal 12 PM, noon, Mass at La Virgen de Guadalupe Church (93 West 1st South, Bunkerville, NV) today, Tuesday Jan. 23, so we can pray for the recovery of our Brother and Friend Jim Courtney. Please attend.

Vivat Jesus!   Jim McCluskey, GK 13754

Prayers Requested for Terry Hayes

Br. Knights,   I just learned that my uncle, Terry Hayes, is in the hospital in Idaho and that his lungs have collapsed to the point where there is nothing that the doctors can do to reverse the symptoms.  At this point, he is in a coma and the doctors say that there is little hope that he will survive more than a couple of days and perhaps only a few hours.

Please pray for him, that he may recover, and also pray for his family, as well as mine.

Jim Shurtliff
Financial Secretary
