Living Rosary at St. Patrick's on 6 January

Br. Knights,   This is a reminder that Council 4828's next council-sponsored Living Rosary prayer service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6th, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fallon.  Why not start the New Year right by taking 20-30 minutes of your time to join us in support of this special and important prayer service.  If you can't attend, please pray the Rosary on your own or with your family and pray for an end to the sins of abortion and for the protection of life at all stages.

Remember, these services are not just for the Knights of Columbus, but rather, they are for any and all pro-life individuals, so please help spread the word to our fellow Br. Knights and parishioners and also to your friends and neighbors.  See you there!

Also note that there will also be a similar simultaneous prayer service in Reno that morning.  It will be held in the open field, across the street from the abortion clinic, a couple of blocks behind the Meadowood Mall.

Knights of Columbus Supreme Council commits $50,000 for typhoon victims
Fund established to aid those affected by Typhoon Durian in Philippines

New Haven, CT - Dec 7, 2006 The Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus today committed $50,000 to help victims of Typhoon Durian, which struck the island of Luzon in the Philippines late last week, and encouraged state and local councils of the Order and any concerned individual donor, to make contributions as well.

The powerful storm hit the Philippines with winds as high as 140 miles (225 kilometers) per hour, and caused landslides and flooding that destroyed or damaged at least 250,000 homes. More than 1,300 people are dead or missing in the wake of the storm, and aid is urgently needed for the survivors. The worst damage was done in the area around Mayon, a volcano in the province of Albay.

Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson noted that the Knights of Columbus has more than 200,000 members in the Philippines, many of whom have been working to help those affected by the storm. “Just as U.S. and Canadian Knights rushed to help those in need after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita last year, Filipino Knights are reaching out to their countrymen on Luzon who are suffering so much right now,” Anderson said. “This contribution expresses our solidarity with them in their hour of need, and I am confident that Knights around the world will add their own contributions to this effort.”

Contributions should be made out to Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc., with a notation on the check that it is for the Philippines Typhoon Relief Fund. The mailing address is:

‘Spiritual Pilgrimage’ with Pope Benedict concludes with his return from Turkey
Supreme Knight thanks all who made the prayer effort a success

New Haven, CT - December 1, 2006
As Pope Benedict XVI returned to Vatican City at the conclusion of his four-day visit to Turkey, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson thanked all who participated in the worldwide “spiritual pilgrimage” of prayer for the pope during his journey, organized by the Knights of Columbus.

“I am especially grateful to the many bishops and priests who encouraged Catholics in their dioceses and parishes to join in this prayerful support for the Holy Father and his important mission in Turkey,” Anderson said. “The pope made a significant contribution to the promotion of Christian unity in his meeting with the Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, and made an important overture of peace and good will to Muslims everywhere in his visit to the Blue Mosque with Mustafa Cagrici, the Grand Mufti of Istanbul. We pray that his visit and genuine expressions of concern and respect for all will bear fruit in improved mutual understanding and a broader acceptance of religious freedom.”

“While the pope’s trip, and our spiritual pilgrimage program, has ended, our continued prayers and support will remain with him and his apostolic initiatives,” Anderson concluded.

During the pope’s visit to Turkey, Knights of Columbus, their families, and all Catholics were encouraged to recite a daily Spiritual Pilgrimage prayer for the pope. Composed by Supreme Chaplain Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport, the invocation sought “deeper ties of understanding, cooperation, and peace among Roman Catholics, the Orthodox, and those who profess Islam,” and asked that “Pope Benedict be kept safe from all harm as he prays, bears witness to the Gospel, and invites all peoples to a dialogue of faith, reason, and love” (full text available at www.kofc.org).

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

Brothers:   Participate in the Order’s "Family of the Month" program! Honor your council families who exemplify the values taught by our Church and our Order! Full details on the program are provided in the Family of the Month booklet (#1993) provided to each council in its annual "Surge . . . with Service" packet!

To participate in the program, your council must first select a member and his family as the "Family of the Month" using the guidelines explained in the Family of the Month booklet. Then complete and submit the corresponding “Family of the Month" form (inside Family of the Month booklet) to the Supreme Council office. Specify the reasons for the selection on the reverse side of the report. Or copy and use the generic report form (inside Family of the Month booklet) to fax this information to the Supreme Council office. Or use the OnLine form at the Supreme website: http://www.kofc.org/un/officers/forms/formlist.cfm?type=1

On the fifteenth day of each month from August through July —100 'Family of the Month" reporting forms will be drawn at random from among all entries received at the Supreme Council office for the previous month. Each of the 100 selected families will receive the beautiful Holy Family statuette, along with a personal letter of congratulations from Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson. These will be sent directly to the families at their home addresses. (i.e. The November Family of the Month honorees need to be submitted to Supreme before the 15th of December, etc..)

Remember — as your council selects each "Family of the Month," the appropriate reporting form should be completed and signed by the grand knight. Completed council forms must reach the Supreme Council office by the 15th day of the month following the month designated on each individual report form.

Note: I urge all Grand Knights to submit to Supreme the names of their past "Family of the Month" honorees from July thru October, even-though these "Family of the Month" honorees are not eligible for the Holy Family statuette, they are still eligible for the Orders' Family of the Year.

The "Family of the Month" program is an excellent way to recognize and support council families. Participate in the program and each month a brother knight and his family from your council will receive local honors and the chance to be a Supreme Council selection!

Jesus Avila

"Charity"

Worthy Brothers ,
Fellow Knights and Ladies,

If your Council or local Parish is having a food drive.. all are asked to keep in mind the less fortunate and their families. Please give and give generously and encourage others to do so as well. You will be glad you did.

If you weren't able to, or you missed the food drive/s, you may still  donate food items to Catholic Charities downtown (LV) or to the Food Bank which is always short especially in the holidays as there are many needy families.  GK's of each Council can also check with Catholic Charities or other organizations in your area that work with helping the less fortunate  to see if they need any assistance as they always could use either  food , clothing or a few extra hands this time of year.  Also a Parish or Council may consider adopting a needy family.     REMEMBER CHARITY...

Message from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson

Dear Brother Knights,

From Nov. 28 to Dec. 1, Pope Benedict XVI will travel to Turkey for his first pastoral visit to a primarily Muslim country.  While few Catholics will be able to join the Holy Father in Turkey, the Knights of Columbus has initiated a “Spiritual Pilgrimage” which strives to unite Knights, their families and other Catholics in prayerful solidarity with Pope Benedict XVI on the occasion of that important visit.

A special “Spiritual Pilgrimage” prayer has been composed by Supreme Chaplain Bishop William E. Lori, which Knights are encouraged to pray daily, starting on the Sunday before the pope’s trip begins – Nov. 26, the Solemnity of Christ the King – and continuing through the Holy Father’s visit until he returns to the Vatican on Dec. 1. (See “Spiritual Pilgrimage” Prayer below.)

Please encourage your brother Knights, families, friends and fellow parishioners to join you in praying for the Holy Father during this important moment for the Church and the world.

Visit http://www.kofc.org for additional information and resources about the “Spiritual Pilgrimage.”  Any questions regarding this initiative should be directed to the Department of Fraternal Services, at (203) 752-4154 or via e-mail spiritual.pilgrimage@kofc.org

Fraternally,

Carl A. Anderson
Supreme Knight

_________________________________________________

“Spiritual Pilgrimage” Prayer

Heavenly Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name, we humbly ask that you sustain, inspire, and protect your servant, Pope Benedict XVI, as he goes on pilgrimage to Turkey – a land to which St. Paul brought the Gospel of your Son; a land where once the Mother of your Son, the Seat of Wisdom, dwelt; a land where faith in your Son’s true divinity was definitively professed. Bless our Holy Father, who comes as a messenger of truth and love to all people of faith and good will dwelling in this land so rich in history. In the power of the Holy Spirit, may this visit of the Holy Father bring about deeper ties of understanding, cooperation, and peace among Roman Catholics, the Orthodox, and those who profess Islam. May the prayers and events of these historic days greatly contribute both to greater accord among those who worship you, the living and true God, and also to peace in our world so often torn apart by war and sectarian violence.

We also ask, O Heavenly Father, that you watch over and protect Pope Benedict and entrust him to the loving care of Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Fatima, a title cherished both by Catholics and Muslims. Through her prayers and maternal love, may Pope Benedict be kept safe from all harm as he prays, bears witness to the Gospel, and invites all peoples to a dialogue of faith, reason, and love. We make our prayer through Christ, our Lord.     Amen.

Pope Appoints Supreme Knight Anderson to Pontifical Council

[New Haven, CT -
Nov 2, 2006] Carl A. Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, has been appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as a consultor to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications for a five-year term.

The Pontifical Council for Social Communications, under the direction of Archbishop John P. Foley, a Philadelphia native and a Knight of Columbus, is responsible for addressing issues and interests in cinema, radio, television, and the news media as they pertain to the teaching and mission of the Catholic Church.

Mr. Anderson, who has served as Supreme Knight since 2000, also serves as a member of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, a consultor to the Pontifical Council for the Family and to the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. He was also the only Catholic layman from North America to serve as an auditor to two recent World Synods of Bishops, in October 2005 and October 2001. In 1998, Pope John Paul II appointed him a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.

From 1983 to 1998, Mr. Anderson taught as a visiting professor of family law at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. In 1988, he became the founding vice president and first dean of the Washington, D.C., campus of this graduate school of theology, now located at The Catholic University of America.

Mr. Anderson holds degrees in philosophy from Seattle University and in law from the University of Denver. He is a member of the bar of the District of Columbia and is admitted to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court. He and his wife, Dorian, are the parents of five children.

Knights of Columbus sponsors "Spiritual Pilgrimage" with Pope during trip to Turkey

New Haven, CT - Oct 26, 2006 The Knights of Columbus announced today that it will sponsor a “spiritual pilgrimage” with Pope Benedict XVI as he travels to Turkey in late November. Knights, their families, and all Catholics are being asked to pray daily for the Pontiff during the trip, which begins on Tuesday, November 28 and concludes on Friday, December 1.

Knights will pray for the pope’s intentions beginning on November 26, the Sunday before the pope departs (the Solemnity of Christ the King). In addition, the Knights of Columbus will print and distribute cards with a special prayer written by the Order’s Supreme Chaplain, Bishop William E. Lori. Knights and others joining in the Spiritual Pilgrimage will say the prayer each day during the pope’s trip.

The prayer asks that the pope’s visit will bring about “deeper ties of understanding, cooperation, and peace among Roman Catholics, the Orthodox, and those who profess Islam.” And it asks that “Pope Benedict be kept safe from all harm as he prays, bears witness to the Gospel, and invites all peoples to a dialogue of faith, reason, and love.” The full text of the prayer appears below. A PDF file of the prayer card can be found at www.kofc.org/

“Only a few Catholics can physically travel with the Holy Father to Turkey,” Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson said, “but millions of us can be united with him in prayer during his pilgrimage for peace.”

“We will ask Our Lady of Fatima to intercede for the pope during this journey,” Anderson continued. “Mary is regarded with special esteem by people of the Islamic faith, and this is especially true under her title Our Lady of Fatima, since Fatima was the name of the prophet Mohammed’s daughter.”

Text of prayer for Knights of Columbus Spiritual Pilgrimage

Prayer composed by Bishop William E. Lori, Supreme Chaplain

Looking for a 1st Degree

Council 4828 in Fallon is asking if any Councils in the Carson, Sparks, or Reno area might be holding a 1st Degree prior to 3rd of November.  Council 4828 has a candidate who is very anxious to join our Council, but, unfortunately, he is leaving town on 4 November and won't be back until January.  We would really like to get him through his 1st Degree before he leaves.  We could hold a ceremony of our own, but since he is our only candidate, we would like to find a Degree where he wouldn't be the only person going through the ceremony.   Thanks!

Rafael Guízar Valencia to become first Bishop/Knight of Columbus to be a saint
Bishop of Veracruz was known throughout the Americas for courage and missionary zeal

(ROME, ITALY) October 6, 2006 Bishop Rafael Guizar Valencia (1878 – 1938), who will be canonized in Rome on October 15, 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI, will become the seventh Knight of Columbus and the first bishop/Knight to be declared a saint.

Six other Knights, all of whom were martyred in Mexico during the persecutions of the 1920s and 1930s, were declared saints of the Catholic Church by Pope John Paul II in 2000.

“We welcome the canonization of our brother Knight, Bishop Guizar Valencia, and know that his life of courage and legacy of evangelization will be an inspiration to each of our 1.7 million members around the world,” said Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, who will attend Bishop Guizar Valencia’s canonization in Rome.

Rafael Guizar Valencia was born in Cotija de la Paz, Michoacan, Mexico on April 16, 1878. He was ordained a priest in 1901. With the start of the Mexican revolution in 1910, persecution of the Catholic Church became severe, and Guizar became a special target because of his outspoken defense of the Church. He went underground – disguised as a junk dealer – in order to be able to continue his work as a priest. In 1915, when the Mexican government issued an order that he be shot on sight, he escaped to the United States, and then went on to serve the church in Guatemala and Cuba.

While in Cuba, he was consecrated Bishop of Veracruz, Mexico. The end of the revolution enabled him to return to Mexico in January 1920, and he joined Knights of Columbus Council 2311 in Jalapa, Veracruz on August 16. 1923. As bishop, he founded a clandestine seminary to train future priests, noting that “A bishop can do without a mitre, a crosier, and even a cathedral, but never without a seminary, because the future of his diocese depends on the seminary.”

Bishop Guizar Valencia was forced to flee Mexico once again in 1927, during the persecution of the Church under Mexican President Plutarco Calles. He returned in 1929, the year the Church reached an accord with the Mexican government, reached in part because of successful lobbying by the Knights of Columbus to get the U.S. government to take an active role solving the crisis. After his return to Mexico, Bishop Guizar Valencia continued his ministry, and became known as “the bishop of the poor.” He died of natural causes on June 6, 1938, and was beatified by Pope John Paul II on January 29, 1995.

Keep Christ in Christmas Program

The State Deputy, Wayne Bieniasz, has asked the State Ladies Auxiliary to chair the Keep Christ in Christmas Program for the Nevada State Council.  I am Beverly Dendary, the 3-year trustee for the State Ladies Auxiliary and I will be the coordinator for the program this year.  Mickey McGuire has taken this duty for quite some and we thank him for the wonderful job he has done with this program in the past.

Each Council received information regarding the Keep Christ in Christmas - Send Religious Christmas Card Program.  This is a very effective way of showing why we celebrate Christmas and why the holiday should never be referred to as "Xmas" but "CHRISTmas".

This is also a good fundraiser for Councils and Auxiliaries.  For each box of cards sold the Council/Auxiliary can profit up to $5.00.  An assortment pack is available for $162.50 which can be sold for $282.50.  The assortment consists of 36 assorted boxes, 5 sheets of seals, 2 lapel pins and 50 brochures.  Click Here For Brochure (PDF fomat)

Cards come in a variety of languages including English, Spanish, French, Tagalog, Polish, Italian and Ukranian.

Council order forms and checks should be sent directly to me rather than Mr. McGuire as your forms indicate.  I will then forward the order to get your cards on the way and I will forward the money to the State Secretary.

It's time to get rolling on this project.

  • Order cards to have them ready to sell (of course after you get permission from your pastor)
  • Start selling cards on Columbus Day Weekend, October 7-8
  • Announce in your parish bulletins that you will be selling the cards (I have sample text for you to use)
  • Announce in your Council newsletters that you will be selling the cards
  • Greet parishioners after mass with brochures (a great way to offer Form 100's also)
  • You should have cards available for sell until the end of November

Thank you,

Beverly Dendary

Memorandum from the Supreme Secretary

TO:                  Board of Directors
                        State Deputies

FROM:            Supreme Secretary

SUBJECT:       Conversion of Client & Fraternal Systems to Ingenium

DATE:             September 22, 2006

On Friday, September 29, 2006, the Knights of Columbus will begin the second phase of its conversion to the use of Ingenium software.  It will be a significant implementation that will include added support for all fraternal and client operations (members, certificateholders, etc.).  When the installation is completed, there will be over 400 Ingenium users in this office.

I want to alert you to certain logistical happenings that are brought about by our implementation plan.  Implementation will require that mainframe systems at the Supreme Council Office be brought down at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29th, so that the conversion of 4.5 million client and fraternal records can begin. The Customer Service Department will have the capability of answering questions that develop through telephone inquiries until 7:30 p.m.  Other operational departments will not have mainframe system access after 1:00 p.m.

Conversion to the Ingenium system will begin at 1:00 p.m. that day and is expected to run until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1st.  That will allow time before 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2nd, to recover from any unplanned tasks or unexpected problems.  The updated Ingenium System and all other systems are expected to be available by 8:00 a.m. Monday morning.

We are cautiously optimistic that the planned conversion will be successful.  We will communicate with you again on October 2nd to keep you abreast of the results.  In the meantime, we ask your vigilance and patience as we maneuver through a new browser-based system during the first weeks of October.

Knight is Mission Specialist on 11-Day Flight of Space Shuttle Atlantis

City, State - Sep 14, 2006 Commander Daniel C. Burbank, 45, a 25-year member of Edmund P. Perkins Council 6626 in Tolland, Conn., is serving as af Flight specialist on the current Space Shuttle Atlantis mission, STS-115, which is making improvements to the International Space Station.

The six-member space shuttle crew is installing a second set of solar arrays, weighing 17.5 tons, on the space station, which double the station’s ability to generate power from sunlight. The 11-day mission has been in planning and training four years. Commander Burbank was a member of a two-man team that made a space walk Wednesday, Sept. 13, to activate the newly installed equipment to the space station.

Commander Burbank graduated from Tolland (Conn.) High School and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He received a master’s degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

This is his second mission aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis. During a 12-day mission, STS-106, in September, 2000, Commander Burbank prepared the International Space Station for its first permanent crew.

Commander Burbank’s father, Dan, is also a past grand knight of Council 6626.

Knights of Columbus declares September 11
a “World Day of Prayer for Peace”

New Haven, CT - Sep 7, 2006 The Knights of Columbus is calling on all people of faith to observe September 11, 2006, as a “World Day of Prayer for Peace.” The Knights began observance of a World Day of Prayer for Peace in 2004 with a resolution passed at the Order’s annual convention.

A full page ad in the New York Times on September 11 will bring the simple message to more than a million people with the words: “September 11th: A day to pray for peace and those working to achieve it.” The ad can be viewed at the Knights of Columbus website www.kofc.org.

“As we pray for peace on September 11th, we not only honor the memory of those who were killed that day five years ago, but also in a special way all the brave men and women of the military who have sacrificed so much, even their very lives, to bring about true peace rooted in justice,” said Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson “Faced with a situation in the Middle East where peace seems ever more elusive, now more than ever we must ‘implore from God the precious gift of peace’ as Pope Benedict has encouraged all believers to do.”

The Knights of Columbus was one of the first organizations to provide financial assistance to the families of the fallen emergency personnel. Within two days of the attacks in 2001, the Knights began providing checks of $3,000 – for immediate needs – to family members of emergency workers who lost their lives in the attacks, regardless of their religious affiliation. Ultimately more than $1.49 million was disbursed – with a minimum of red tape – to wives and children of police, fire and other emergency workers. Recipients would later receive a second check for more than $500

The Knights has marked each subsequent anniversary of 9/11 with special events. In 2002, a memorial Mass was held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. to honor and pray for those killed. In 2003, a September 11 exhibit was unveiled at the Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven, Conn. And since 2004, the Knights of Columbus has called on its members and all people of faith to recognize the day as the “World Day of Prayer for Peace.”

Click here to see a fact sheet about the Knights of Columbus and 9/11

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest lay Catholic organization, with more than 1.7 million members in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Philippines and Poland.

"A Promise Kept" - Knights of Columbus hurricane relief effort a major success
$10 million relief fund supplemented by hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours

New Haven, CT Aug 28, 2006 “The Knights of Columbus response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita has been one of the most dramatic in our 124 year history,” Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson said today. “As we approach the first anniversary of Katrina’s assault on the Gulf Coast, it is clear that much remains to be done. But it is also clear that the response to the crisis by faith-based volunteer organizations like the Knights of Columbus was a bright spot in the wrenching aftermath of this immense natural disaster.”

The Knights of Columbus Gulf States Disaster Relief Fund grew to more than $10 million, and that financial aid was supplemented by hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours of service by Knights in the immediate area (hundreds of Knights worked 8 hour shifts at the Houston Astrodome, for example) and by Knights throughout the U.S. and Canada, who collected clothing, food and other staples for storm victims.

The Knights of Columbus also quickly provided badly needed resources to Catholic Charities offices in Baton Rouge, LA and Mobile, AL when they were suddenly overwhelmed with thousands of people who escaped the storm with little but the clothes on their backs. The Knights wired $200,000 to Baton Rouge Catholic Charities just a few days after the storm hit, long before resources were available from any other source.

Individual Knights of Columbus at dozens of KC halls in the region served thousands of meals to evacuees, and several KC halls were made available to police and national guard officials for use as temporary command centers.

The Knights of Columbus also made significant contributions to the restoration of Catholic education in the affected areas, including a $500,000 grant to the New Orleans Catholic school system which paid tuition expenses for hundreds of low-income students whose parents were suddenly left without jobs or income. With the help of the Knights of Columbus, 83 of the city’s Catholic schools were able to reopen. State councils in New York and New Jersey adopted Catholic high schools that had been damaged or destroyed, raising $234,000 for Archbishop Hannon High School, which was destroyed, and $65,000 for St. Augustine High School, which is being repaired and will once again serve the low-income African-American community when it reopens next week.

Here's a fact sheet with more detail... http://www.kofc.org/cmf/resources/KatrinaFactSheet.pdf

MC Drive Program

Brothers: This message is being sent at the request of Allan Korejwo, State Community Director.

SCHEDULE: Our annual state-wide drive to support those with intellectual disabilities is scheduled for October 21st and 22nd. If your council has a scheduling conflict, you can change the dates. Just keep it close to the designated dates and notify me in writing if you reschedule. I will assume October 21st and 22nd, unless you tell me otherwise.

PERMITS: Five Nevada jurisdictions require permits for charitable solicitation. These are: Las Vegas; Clark County; Sparks; Carson City; and Reno. I will obtain the required permits. Copies will be available when you pick up your orders. This is another reason why I need the dates of your drive as soon as possible.

PROCEDURES: This year, we will follow the procedures we’ve used in the past:

  • Councils designate a Chairman for the event.
  • Tell me what you need (how many cases of Tootsie Roll, aprons, hats and collection cans.)
  • I will send a combined order. When the order comes in, we will tell you. You will pick it up from one of two locations: one in the North (Reno) and one in the South (Henderson.)
  • Conduct your drive and send the money you’ve collected to me by check made out to the State Council.
  • The reporting and accounting form will be available on the State web site.
  • The State Council will send individual checks to you for the charities you designate.

CORRESPONDENCE: A significant change for this year is the use of email for correspondence. We’re trying to cut down on mailing costs (which reduce the amount we can give to charities.) Consequently, you’ll find information, order forms and reporting forms on the State website (www.kofc-nv.org) under “For Officers”. I ask District Deputies to check with their Councils for any problems getting the required information from the web site, and to help where they can.

ORDER INFORMATION: Order forms are available on the State website (see above). You can fill this out online (use your insert key to fill in the information) and send it to me by email, or you can print it out, fill in the information and either mail or fax it to me. For the address, list where your Council receives mail. When I receive your order, I’ll call to verify the amounts, so please be sure to give me good phone numbers. The order for the Tootsie Roll products will go out on August 25th, so I need all your inputs no later than August 23rd. This is to be sure we receive the products in time to get them distributed.

For planning purposes, a case of Tootsie Rolls (6 boxes of 50 individually wrapped Tootsie Rolls per case – 300 total) costs $17.25. Some Councils vote to pay for the Tootsie Rolls with Council funds and send in all contributions; others subtract the cost of product from the money collected and send in the balance. This is a decision for your Council.

If you wish to order aprons, the message that will appear is “Helping People With Intellectual Disabilities.” These cost $7.25 each. This should be a Council expense and should not come out of the money you collect. There is a place on the order form to indicate how many you want to order.

QUESTIONS: Feel free to call if you have questions. Early evening is good for phone calls; email works all the time.

May 2007 Convention book - Let's make it memorable!

ATTENTION GRAND KNIGHTS, DEPUTY GRAND KNIGHTS, FINANCIAL SECRETARIES, BROTHER KNIGHTS ONE AND ALL:

The time is here for all councils to come forward and be recognized for their good works!  The place to advertise them is in the upcoming May 2007 Convention book.  We, at Holy Family 7708 in Las Vegas, are putting some thought, effort, and energy behind this Convention keepsake to make it memorable and high quality.

Here's how you can help: We are asking all councils to sponsor just one page at a mere $100 and list some of the good works you have achieved and maybe some special history and other note worthy points about your council, and/or officers.  Also, we asking all councils to publish in their newsletter an open invitation for brother knights, fellow parishioners, friends, acquaintances, one and all; to purchase sponsorship of the event and the book at rates of only $25 to $100 for a full page.  We will have editorial and art copy assistance at no additional cost...

For the council selling the most sponsorship dollars, there will be two awards and special recognition.  One for overall dollars and one for dollars per member.  Then the third award for best lay-out in an ad based on originality and quality.

Let's all pitch in and truly make this a memorable convention together!

UPDATE ON FR. MICHAEL J. McGIVNEY GUILD

MY BROTHERS KNIGHTS:

I did not receive the JULY 2006 Guild Report from Supreme in time for the July 8, 2006 Grand Knights and District Deputies training in Las Vegas. However, I can now report that as of July 1, 2006, NEVADA has 593 Guild members. Total for International is: 108,000 members.

RECENT RECRUITMENT DRIVES/INFORMATION NIGHTS: Thanks to all the Knights and insurance agents who took part at the recent recruitment drives at so many parishes throughout the state of Nevada. This was then followed up by an Information Night at many Councils. I do hope the film: THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF FR. McGIVNEY was shown.

ATTENTION GRAND KNIGHTS: Please show this outstanding film about the life of our Founder at every Information Night you have. After the film is viewed, your insurance agent has the opportunity to speak about the many insurance benefits available to a new Knight and his family. This film can be ordered on-line at the HOME PAGE of Fr. McGivney at http://www.fathermcgivney.org

COUNCIL SOCIALS: As a suggestion, be sure to invite your First Degree members, their families, and your insurance agent to one of your upcoming Council socials. Show the film once again. These socials are a great opportunity to invite some of your fellow-parishioners so that they, too, can view the film and become aware of this young priest’s dedication as a Servant of God to those in need. After the film is viewed, your insurance agent has the opportunity, once again, to speak about this dedicated Catholic men’s organization and the many insurance benefits available. This is also the perfect time to enroll your new members, and other members who may not be enrolled, as well as your fellow-parishioners and all families into the Fr. McGivney Guild. You can find a copy of the enrollment form in your monthly COLUMBIA magazine. Your members can also enroll on-line on the Fr. McGivney HOME PAGE.

I do believe that every time “THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF FR. McGIVNEY” film is shown, our Guild Membership significantly increases.

I will not be able to attend the July 22 training in Reno. I congratulate all Grand Knights, District Deputies, Financial Secretaries, Chairmen and Directors in the Reno area. I wish you a successful fraternal year.

State Secretary Memo - Subordinate Council Information Sheet

Thank you to all councils that have submitted their new officers to the Knights Info.  This is good information but every Council must fill out the “Subordinate Council Information” sheet and return it to me ASAP.  At the convention I gave every GK this form and as of today I have received only 3 back.  The State Directory is being held and cannot be completed without this information.  I am including the form again and would appreciate if all Grand Knights would complete it and return it to me immediately so the directory can be issued.
